About me
Personality: Niko is a very sweet dog who is looking for a dog savvy home that is just as athletic as he is! Niko has lots of energy that is easily directed to exercise. He is learning how to play fetch with his foster brother dog and enjoys going for runs. Niko loves other dogs and would love to go home with another dog. Niko is learning to go outside to go potty and with treats and praise, he's learning quickly. Niko is ok in the crate, but he would rather not be in it. He will whine at first when he has to go in the crate. He calms down quickly and is fine left alone for a few hours while crated.
History: Niko came to us from another shelter, he has been living in a foster home with no children but does well with other dogs.
Dog/Cat Skills: Niko loves other dogs and is a very good greater! He reacts well to other dogs' body language. If he is excited though, he will be more vocal and jumpy with his greeting. We have only observed his interactions with medium to large dogs, not small dogs. Niko is very reactive to cats and is not recommended to go to a home where there are cats.
Leash Skills: Niko does pull on leash and benefits from the use of a front clipping harness.
Medical: This dog has poor quality tooth enamel. He may have poor enamel quality due to a congenital condition or due to exposure to a medication or a virus when he was very young. The poor enamel will make him more prone to dental disease. Brushing the teeth daily with a soft toothbrush and toothpaste designed for pets will significantly improve this dog's dental health and possibly his general health in the future. He has had a dental cleaning while in our care. Teeth that were unhealthy were removed but dental care is an ongoing process.
